I was asked to make a bridal shower cake last weekend with zebra print and a shoe on top. I have been wanting to make one of these for a while. Couldn't wait to learn how to make the fondant shoe and zebra stripes. It was really fun to do, and I was really happy with the way it turned out. My daughter has already claimed this cake for her next birthday party. :)

How to make Marshmallow Fondant
Marshmallow fondant is a more affordable and more delicious option than the store bought fondant.
With a few simple ingredients you can whip up a batch of fondant in minutes. You will need: 1lb powdered sugar (Domino's), 1 bag mini marshmallows, Crisco, water, largebowl, spoon, rolling pin.

First cover cake with buttercream icing. While icing hardens a little bit on the cake, you can get started on the fondant.
First use the Crisco to grease your bowl and spoon.
Fill bowl with bag of mini marshmallows, add a couple of drops of water. Microwave for 30 second intervals till they are completely melted.
The marshmallows will be ready when they are smooth and have no lumps.
Add powdered sugar (do not use generic brands, they will clump..I like Dominos) about 1/4 cup at a time. Mix with greased spoon at first, then use greased hands to knead fondant like bread. Once it has the consistancy of play-dough it's ready to roll out. You can leave it white or add your colors at this point.
Grease rolling pin and space that you will be rolling your fondant on. If fondant is too sticky add powdered sugar, if its too dry add a couple drops of water..if it's too hard microwave for 10 seconds.
After it's rolled out to about 1/4 in thick you can gently place it on top of your cake. Careful not to tear the fondant, I usually lay half on my arm and slowly spread it over the cake. Smooth fondant, starting at the top and move carefully down the sides. You can use a smoothing tool or your hands. I like using my hands and then using a small rolling pin to smooth it. Cut off remaining edges off the bottom..I like using a pizza cutter :) Save extras for decorations!
